Is it possible to experience the nostalgic split screen multiplayer feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, just like we did in the past? This game serves as the sequel to Modern Warfare 2, carrying forward the storyline and set in the same time period as its predecessor, 2009.

In the past, Call of Duty consistently offered a split screen mode, which led many gamers to anticipate the same feature in the latest installment. However, the current landscape is not as straightforward. This article will delve into the split screen options available in MW3 and provide a guide on how to configure it.

Does Modern Warfare 3 Have Split Screen?

Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Split Screen

Although it has not been officially confirmed, we strongly believe that split screen support will not be available in the MW3 campaign. This is consistent with previous Call of Duty games like MW2019, MW2, BOCW, and Vanguard, which also did not include a split screen mode for their campaigns. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that MW3 will reintroduce this feature.

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Split Screen

In multiplayer mode, the situation is different. It’s highly probable that you can enjoy split-screen multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3 both online and locally. However, if your intention is to play online, you will require two online accounts (Xbox Game Pass Core, PS Plus Essential) to be signed in simultaneously. It is not possible to utilize only one online account along with a guest account. Please note that split-screen functionality is limited to team-based games and cannot be used in free-for-all modes, which is understandable for obvious reasons.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Split Screen

The highly anticipated game that fans would love to play on their couch with a friend in split screen is likely to disappoint once again. Just like Vanguard’s Zombies mode, it’s unlikely that MW3 Zombies will support split screen gameplay. It seems that MW3 Zombies will probably only offer online co-op or solo play.

How To Set Up Split Screen In Modern Warfare 3

In order to engage in split screen multiplayer mode in Modern Warfare 3, you would typically follow these steps (assuming it functions similarly to MW2):

Local Multiplayer

To play Modern Warfare 3, you can use any account, whether it’s connected to the internet or not. To start a game on your own, go to the “Multiplayer” menu and press Y on Xbox or △ on PlayStation. If you want to join someone else’s game, use a different controller and log in with a separate account, whether it has online capabilities or not. Simply press the A or X button to join. When playing locally, the person who starts the game can customize it by adding bots, choosing the map and game mode. Additionally, both players have full access to all weapons and attachments, so they can use whatever they prefer.

Online Multiplayer

  1. Please log in to Modern Warfare 3 using an account that is enabled for online access.
  2. To proceed, sign in to a distinct online account using a different controller. Ensure that both accounts possess either PS Plus Essential or Xbox Game Pass Core.
  3. To join the lobby, the second account needs to press A or X from the “Multiplayer” menu.
  4. Now, the player responsible for setting up the lobby has the option to choose the matchmaker.

Based on our past experiences with CoD games, split screen performance on older-gen consoles has been a challenge, although still manageable. However, the current-gen consoles should have no problem running MW3’s multiplayer in split screen mode. Have fun!
