Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2: CD Project Red Opens Up About Future Projects

The success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners proves that anime adaptations of video games can be both successful and incredibly cool! Although it didn’t directly adapt the CD Projekt Red game, it brought Night City to life in a way that the game may have overlooked. Now, the pressing question is: will there be a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 | CD Projekt Red Addresses Rumors

CD Projekt Red experienced significant success in bringing their video game franchises to life through collaborations with Netflix. Their live-action adaptation, particularly acclaimed for Henry Cavill’s performance, was well received, and fans eagerly anticipate the potential second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Edgerunners was intended to be a standalone project, meaning there will not be a second season. This news is quite disappointing.

  • If you’re eager to immerse yourself in Night City and take down Cyberpsychos, Cyberpunk 2077 is still available for purchase. The majority of the issues have been resolved, ensuring a smoother experience. Enjoy the game without worries!

However, it is quite understandable. The initial season concluded the narrative flawlessly. It was undeniably heart-wrenching, yet all loose ends were tied up.

By artificially contriving a second season, possibly with a convenient plot device, the essence of Edgerunners would be undermined. The series is intended to portray a grim reality, and its current conclusion already represents a comparatively positive outcome within its world.

Even if they offered it, I have no desire for a second season.

We have some good news – although we won’t be joining David and the others, we still have the opportunity to visit Night City soon. Satoru Honma, CD Projekt Red’s community manager, expressed interest in exploring Night City, just not through a second season of Edgerunners.

During an interview with Famitsu, Honma disclosed possible future prospects for the Cyberpunk genre and anime.

In the future, I have a strong desire to collaborate with Japanese studios and create more anime. The positive feedback we have received motivates me greatly. However, I want to clarify that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was intended as a standalone project, and there are no ongoing efforts for a second season behind the scenes.

The abundance of stories available in the Cyberpunk universe is truly captivating, and I find it highly satisfying. It is possible that we will indeed be fortunate enough to experience some of them.

  • To experience The Witcher’s next-gen version, your first step should be acquiring a PS5 gaming console.

However, it’s important to note that these would be entirely fresh endeavors. Just imagine the infinite potential that lies ahead. And don’t forget, the inclusion of iconic figures like Johnny Silverhand or Morgan Blackhand could become a reality in forthcoming adaptations.

They are currently working on new Cyberpunk projects at this very moment.
