Call of Duty: Here’s our ranking of every gun in Modern Warfare 2, from best to worst… | © EarlyGame

In Modern Warfare 2, the choice of your weapon plays a crucial role in determining your success as it is a shooter game. Unlike Modern Warfare 2019, where the M4 was a dominant choice in most situations, Modern Warfare 2 offers a diverse range of high-level guns to consider, alongside some less desirable options. So, which guns are the top contenders and which ones should you steer clear of? Despite minimal sleep since the game’s launch, we have finally found the answers to these burning questions.

Please take note that the following is a tier-list featuring all the primary weapons available in Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer. Additionally, we have compiled a list of the top-performing firearms for Warzone 2.0.

Best Guns In Modern Warfare 2 | Ranking

S-Tier Guns In MW2 | The Absolute Meta

In this tier, you will discover the finest weapons currently obtainable in MW2. Without a doubt, each of these weapons is exceptional.

S-Tier: TAQ-56 (SCAR-L) / Assault Rifle

The TAQ is an exceptional AR, boasting a reliable TTK and impressively minimal recoil. This is undoubtedly the pinnacle.

S-Tier: Tempus Razorback / Assault Rifle

Prepare for a forthcoming nerf as the Tempus Razorback, an extraordinary AR, possesses almost all desired attributes: minimal recoil, rapid fire rate, impressive damage, extensive range, and exceptional handling speeds.

S-Tier: ISO Hemlock / Assault Rifle

The Hemlock possesses a slower firing rate, yet its impact is exceptionally powerful. Its S-Tier ranking is attributed to its user-friendly nature, characterized by minimal recoil, satisfactory handling speeds, and the advantage of being equipped with exceptional attachments.

S-Tier: Kastov 74u (AK-74u) / Assault Rifle

Essentially, this firearm falls under the AR category but functions like an SMG. It benefits from AR attachments, making it an exceptional hybrid option that combines the strengths of both weapon types. It is the ultimate versatile weapon.

The strength of this weapon is truly undeniable, as it has already been banned in both the European Challengers scene and the CDL. When professional players unanimously choose not to utilize a weapon against each other, it is a clear indication of its destructive power.

A-Tier Guns In MW2 | Competitive

Although these weapons are still powerful, they do not belong to the “meta” category. They fall slightly short in comparison to the S-Tier weapons.

A-Tier: VAZNEV-9K (PP-19 Vityaz) / SMG

This SMG has been the preferred choice among professional players thus far. While it demands a bit more skill compared to the MP5, it is undoubtedly one of the top SMGs in the game. Its unparalleled mobility, excellent close-range time-to-kill (TTK), and the ability to equip a variety of useful attachments through the expansive AK platform make it highly desirable.

A-Tier: Fennec 45 (KRISS Vector) / SMG

The new Vector possesses exceptional close-range strength due to its incredibly high rate-of-fire. However, compared to other close-range weapons, it is less forgiving as it depletes the magazine rapidly and experiences a substantial decrease in damage over longer distances. Therefore, the Vector proves to be more suitable for skilled players, although it may not be the best choice for everyone.

A-Tier: BAS-P (MPX) / SMG

While the BAS-P doesn’t have any major weaknesses, it also doesn’t stand out in any particular area. However, it is still a reliable and versatile option overall.

A-Tier: ISO 45 (UMP45) / SMG

While the recoil may be unwelcomingly high, there is no denying the immense damage it inflicts. This particular playstyle caters more towards skilled players.

A-Tier: Lachmann Sub (MP5) / SMG

Even with the 50-round drum mag equipped, the MP5 remains an excellent SMG, boasting a remarkable TTK in close-quarters combat and impressive mobility.

A-Tier: Chimera (Honey Badger) / Assault Rifle

The Chimera possesses an impressive level of bounce, making it an ideal choice for close combat as a short-range assault rifle. It excels in this role and is highly recommended for players who prefer an aggressive playstyle, yet desire a weapon that offers versatility beyond the limitations of an SMG.

A-Tier: STB-556 (AUG) / Assault Rifle

The AUG provides a comfortable shooting experience, offering minimal recoil and commendable handling speed. It essentially functions as a highly agile assault rifle, akin to the Chimera in terms of performance.

A-Tier: Kastov 762 (AK-47) / Assault Rifle

This AR is yet another remarkable weapon. While its recoil is slightly higher compared to the TAQ, it offers a slightly faster time-to-kill (TTK). Overall, it serves as a versatile AR suitable for any situation.

A-Tier: M4 / Assault Rifle

The M4 in this game is a familiar choice. Call of Duty developers have a tradition of introducing an assault rifle that is accessible from the beginning, offering reliability and ease of use throughout the game’s duration. While the M4 in this game may not be as overpowering as the M4 in MW2019, it still maintains its solid performance.

A-Tier: Cronen Squall / Battle Rifle

The Cronen Squall exhibits remarkable strength. To maximize its potential, prioritize attachments that enhance recoil control. With proper handling, the Cronen Squall becomes a formidable weapon, capable of obliterating adversaries. It becomes even more lethal when coupled with well-aimed headshots.

Below is a comprehensive guide to the .

A-Tier: RAPP H (HK21) / LMG

Due to its nature as an LMG, this weapon will inevitably face challenges when trying to fit into a Call of Duty multiplayer setting. However, despite being heavy and slow, it excels in recoil control, offers satisfactory damage, and boasts an impressive rate-of-fire, making it stand out among other LMGs.

Here is a comprehensive package for you.

A-Tier: SP-R 208 / Marksman Rifle

The previously seen SPR from the original Modern Warfare 2019 has returned, with an even greater power. Consider this firearm as the equivalent of the Kar98k from MW2, a remarkably swift sniper rifle that excels in aiming down sights swiftly. With the appropriate optic, it can even be employed effectively at close distances.

A-Tier: SP-X 80 / Sniper

While the SP-X 80 may not match the Signal in terms of shooting speed and may still generate hitmarkers on the torso, it excels in every other aspect as a remarkable sniper rifle with a competitive ADS. Without a doubt, it stands out as the fastest among heavy snipers.

A-Tier: SA-B 50 / Marksman Rifle

Introducing another Kar-like weapon, capable of lightning-fast ADS (aim down sight). Aim for the upper body, and a single shot will eliminate anything in its path.

A-Tier: LA-B 330 / Sniper

This gun is another one of those quick-scope snipers. If you prioritize speed, specifically aiming down sights (ADS) speed, you’ll end up with an excellent weapon.

A-Tier MX Guardian / Shotgun

The MX Guardian, the inaugural fully automatic shotgun in Modern Warfare 2, boasts exceptional power at close range. It shines particularly on maps like shipment, making it undeniably one of the most formidable weapons in the game.

B-Tier Guns In MW2 | Viable

None of the B-tier weapons are rendered obsolete, and leveling them up was not a tedious task. However, it is evident that they are inferior to the S or A-Tier weapons, often exhibiting one or two disappointing aspects.

B-Tier: VEL 46 (MP7) / SMG

Compared to most SMGs, the MP7 shines in mid-range combat due to its exceptional controllability and the advantage of a larger default magazine. However, in close-range encounters, the VEL 46 falls behind other SMGs due to its slightly weaker Time to Kill (TTK).

B-Tier: FSS Hurricane (an M4 with P90-style mags) / SMG

Due to its compatibility with attachments from the M4 platform, this weapon offers immense versatility with a plethora of build options. Another significant advantage is the default magazine’s capacity of 50 rounds. However, similar to the VEL, this weapon tends to fall short in most one-on-one confrontations against other SMGs.

We have a

B-Tier: MINIBAK (PP19 Bizon) / SMG

While the increased magazine capacity is a notable advantage in Warzone, the overall performance of this weapon falls short compared to the VAZNEZ-9K. It can still hold its own and is not considered C-Tier, but it lacks the wow factor.

B-Tier: PDSW 528 (P90) / SMG

Following the established tradition of Call of Duty, the P90 continues to disappoint. Due to the inclusion of a meager 50-round magazine by default, developers consistently weaken its effectiveness, and this is particularly noticeable in MW2. However, it does possess impressive bullet velocity, making it relatively enjoyable to wield.

B-Tier: Kastov 545 (AK-74) / Assault Rifle

Here’s a revision: This version of the AK is designed to fire a lower caliber round. Although it results in reduced damage compared to the impressive 762 Kastov, there doesn’t seem to be any compensatory advantages. Instead, you’re left with average statistics across most categories and a noticeably inferior Time To Kill (TTK), which puts this weapon at a disadvantage compared to other assault rifles.

B-Tier: Lachmann-556 (HK33) / Assault Rifle

This AR is fairly good, striking a decent balance between recoil control and damage. However, it falls short of truly rivaling superior weapons in any specific category and feels a bit sluggish for its capabilities. Nevertheless, it remains playable and particularly intriguing if you’re seeking a departure from the conventional meta weapons.

B-Tier: HCR 56 (AUG H-BAR) / LMG

Just like the RPK is essentially a variant of the Kastov 762, the HCR 56 is simply a variant of the STB-556. As a result, it can be used effectively in public matches, but it lacks the necessary qualities to be considered higher than B-tier in any specific aspect.

B-Tier: 556 Icarus (the M4 with a belt-fed receiver) / LMG

Consider this as a more agile and faster time-to-kill machine gun. It is usable, but there are numerous superior choices available, and it appears that the overpowered setup we all relied on during the beta has been toned down.

Here is the .

B-Tier: RPK / LMG

The RPK stands out as the top-notch LMG due to its ability to seamlessly transform into a distinct variant of Kastov 762. Nevertheless, it should be noted that its speed will consistently remain inferior to the AR version, and in multiplayer gaming, agility holds utmost importance.

B-Tier RAAL MG / LMG

The RAAL possesses immense power, comparable to a truck, yet it suffers from remarkable sluggishness. When strategically positioned, it can annihilate any opponent effortlessly. However, caution must be exercised while on the move, as it requires a significant amount of time to aim accurately.

B-Tier: Signal 50 (GM6 Lynx) / Sniper

The aim-assist on this device is completely malfunctioning, and its mobility and handling are not bad for a sniper either. What really elevates it is the rate-of-fire. It’s unbelievable how fast you can shoot consecutive shots if you’re attempting to control a particular area. However, it only ranks as a B-Tier because it’s just too sluggish for 6v6 multiplayer.

B-Tier: FJX Imperium / Sniper

The FJX weapon is excessively large for multiplayer, however, it is not too slow that it becomes impractical. It is classified as B-Tier because it allows comfortable lane control during gameplay.

B-Tier: MCPR-300 / Sniper

Similar to the Signal 50, the aim-assist on this weapon appears to be completely dysfunctional. While it excels as a sniper, it falls short of being considered top-tier due to its slower rate of fire compared to the Signal 50. Additionally, its lack of speed prevents it from being truly exceptional in 6v6 battles.

B-Tier: TAQ-V (SCAR H) / Battle Rifle

I had hoped to believe that the SCAR H was superior, but unfortunately, its recoil proves to be a hindrance when using full-auto at mid-range. When switched to semi-auto, it fails to make a significant impression, making the TAQ-V fall into the B-tier category.

B-Tier: Lockwood 300 (725) / Shotgun

I strongly dislike the excessive presence of this weapon. It closely resembles the 725 from MW2019 and is incredibly bothersome and unsatisfying to combat against. Regrettably, it has an overwhelming advantage in close-range encounters, forcing us to place it at least in the B-tier.

C-Tier Guns In MW2 | Better Than Punching

These weapons are now considered ineffective. Although it’s still Call of Duty, you can still manage to get a few kills with most weapons, but these ones won’t be of much assistance.

C-Tier: MX9 (AUG Para) / SMG

Similar to the AR AUG, this weapon offers a high level of comfort during usage. However, for the majority of players, it falls short in terms of time-to-kill and lacks the necessary mobility to rival the more potent SMGs found in higher ranks.

C-Tier: M16 / Assault Rilfe

Regrettably, this weapon is not the original Modern Warfare M16, lacking the ability to eliminate targets with a single burst. Consequently, it noticeably struggles when pitted against other assault rifles. Although it performs better in long-range combat on single-fire mode, it would be more practical to opt for the SPR at that juncture.

You can find the . here.

C-Tier: M13B (MCX) / Assault Rifle

The M13B, a new version of MW2019’s M13, stands out as a weapon with minimal recoil, making it suitable for long-range engagements surpassing other assault rifles. However, the extended range advantage is unnecessary for 6v6 maps, and it falls behind in close-range combat, earning it a C-Tier ranking.

C-Tier: SAKIN MG38 (M249) / LMG

While the Icarus LMG is known for its speed, this particular weapon falls on the opposite side of the spectrum. It carries significant weight and operates at a slower pace. Although it offers substantial damage, you will likely find yourself outmatched even before you have a chance to wield it.

C-Tier: Lachmann-762 (G3) / Battle Rifle

The Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle has the potential to transform into a powerful, high-damage assault rifle. Nonetheless, its performance is hindered by a noticeable lack of speed and difficulty in achieving optimal usage.

Here is our .

C-Tier: Tempus Torrent (SR-25) / Marksman Rifle

This rifle is designed for the M4 platform and is comparable to the TAQ-M and EBR-14, although it slightly outperforms them. It can be used decently from a distance, but it is challenging to make a significant impact on the map when using a marksman rifle.

C-Tier: TAQ-M (SCAR H in 6.5 Creedmoor) / Marksman Rifle

Not everyone will find the SCARs Marksman Rifle appealing due to the need for a skilled trigger-finger for quick follow-up shots. However, it stands out as a superior two-shot semi-automatic option due to its ability to utilize the excellent attachments offered by the SCAR platform.

C-Tier: EBR-14 / Marksman Rifle

The EBR stands out from the other weapon in its platform, the SO-14, as it possesses sufficient power to occasionally triumph in mid-range gunfights. However, it is important to note that the EBR cannot be considered a formidable weapon in any scenario.

C-Tier: FTAC Recon (the M4 in a higher caliber) / Battle Rifle

Initially, this weapon possesses a subpar foundation; however, when equipped with attachments, it transforms into a suitable choice for engaging in medium to long-range combat. Particularly noteworthy is its capability to be utilized in full-automatic mode once equipped with larger magazines and effective recoil control.

You have the ability to locate.

C-Tier: KV Broadside (Saiga-12) / Shotgun

In Season 2, the Broadside shotgun made its debut with a clear intention of being a viable choice for Warzone. While it excels in that environment, its performance in multiplayer is also noteworthy, thanks to its impressive range for a shotgun.

D-Tier Guns In MW2 | Don’t Do It

These weapons are not worth utilizing. While the Lockwood will gain popularity due to its undeniable coolness and the satisfaction of making kills with it, if you were faced with a high-stakes 1 on 1 game with a substantial amount of money at stake, I am confident that you would opt for any other weapon listed above.

D-Tier LM-S (PSG1) / Marksman Rifle

Simply choose a sniper rifle with the ability to eliminate targets in a single shot. There is no need to consider using a weapon that only leaves hit markers.

If you are still interested, feel free to give it a try.

D-Tier: Victux XMR

Perfect for Warzone, but excessive for multiplayer. The only justification for acquiring this in 6v6 matches is to enhance its level.

D-Tier: Expedite 12 (Benelli M4) / Shotgun

The shotgun is highly effective in instantly incapacitating targets within a five-meter range, precisely meeting the desired outcome. However, subsequent shots lack swiftness, and the damage inflicted beyond the five-meter mark is negligible.

D-Tier: Bryson 800 (Mossburg 500) / Shotgun

This Bryson is the initial one you must unlock, but it lacks quality. It is slower than the Expedite and possesses a stronger recoil. I fail to understand the reason for using it when the Broadside is available.

D-Tier Lockwood MK2 (Marlin 30-30, just like the old MK2) / Marksman Rifle

The MK2 boasts strong firepower; however, it necessitates reloading after every shot. Failing to consistently hit your target leaves you vulnerable and essentially defenseless. Consequently, it is not an ideal weapon for the relatively cramped maps.

D-Tier: SO-14 (M14) / Battle Rifle

The weapon’s full auto capability comes with a significant drawback – its recoil is simply terrible. Consequently, it is not considered a reliable weapon for general use. Instead, it is recommended to employ it solely for the purpose of unlocking camouflages.

D-Tier: Bryson 890 (Mossburg 590) / Shotgun

The Bryson you unlock second has greater potential as a “combat shotgun” due to its improved handling. However, considering you have the option of the Broadside, there isn’t much reason to use it.
