The topic of crossplay in Elden Ring is unexpectedly intricate, although perhaps not entirely surprising. Similar to the previous Soulsborne games, Elden Ring incorporates various impressive multiplayer functionalities. However, akin to its spiritual predecessors, these features are not readily accessible or straightforward to utilize within Elden Ring. With its tremendous success, even earning the prestigious Game of the Year title at the Game Awards, many players undoubtedly desire to engage in gaming sessions with their friends. Yet, the question arises: Is it even possible to accomplish this if they are not on the same gaming platform?

Crossplay has become increasingly prevalent, with many popular games now offering this option. However, the question remains: does Elden Ring support crossplay? Is it possible for players on different platforms, such as PC and PS4, to venture through The Lands Between together? Look no further, as we have the answer right here!

Elden Ring Crossplay: No Support In Sight

Regrettably, Elden Ring currently does not offer crossplay, at least not in the traditional sense. However, it is possible to play together on different console generations, which we will discuss in more detail later. It is truly disappointing because we greatly enjoy the multiplayer aspect and playing this incredible game with our friends. Although Elden Ring is primarily designed as a single-player experience, it can sometimes feel lonesome out there. Having a companion by your side not only adds immense enjoyment but also makes overcoming difficult challenges a lot more manageable.

There is a low probability of From Software incorporating crossplay in the future, as no official statements have been made regarding this feature. However, we cannot rule out the possibility entirely, as they may surprise us. Historically, Dark Souls games and Bloodborne have not included crossplay, even in post-launch updates. Despite this, Elden Ring has already achieved unprecedented success for the company. Therefore, there is a chance that they may consider adding crossplay through a future patch.

Currently, it is not possible to play with friends on Xbox or PC if you are on PlayStation and vice versa. However, Elden Ring does offer Cross-Gen play, which we will explain to you.

Elden Ring Cross-Gen Play Explained

Cross-Gen refers to a unique type of crossplay exclusive to specific console series. Essentially, it allows players to engage in multiplayer gaming with others who own consoles from the same family. For instance, Xbox One users can connect with Xbox Series X|S players, while PlayStation 4 gamers can team up with PlayStation 5 enthusiasts. It’s worth noting that this feature is also available in Elden Ring, ensuring that you won’t be completely alone while playing the game. However, it’s important to mention that PC players won’t have access to this functionality, which unfortunately undermines the whole PC-Masterrace concept once again. Apologies to PC gamers.

Although Elden Ring doesn’t offer full crossplay, it does provide the freedom to interact with players beyond your console’s player base. While it may not be ideal, having some degree of connectivity is still better than none at all.

How Multiplayer Works In Elden Ring

In Elden Ring, the multiplayer mechanics operate in a manner comparable to the Dark Souls series. This implies that players have the ability to be summoned by fellow players by locating and interacting with signs left within the game world. Additionally, players can engage in PvP encounters by invading each other’s games, adding an element of competitive action.

Unlike the Dark Souls games, Elden Ring allows players to engage in multiplayer without any prerequisites. While consumables are still required, they can be conveniently crafted within the game. Furthermore, the need for Humanity or Embers, which were essential in Dark Souls 1 and 3, has been eliminated in Elden Ring.

The addition is fantastic as it enhances the accessibility and user-friendliness of multiplayer. However, it’s unfortunate that Elden Ring lacks crossplay support, which limits our options and potential player community.
