All DC Movies Coming In 2023: Release Dates & Details

In light of recent changes in leadership and numerous cancellations, the DC Universe has faced a turbulent period despite its array of impressive movies. What lies ahead for the DCU in 2023? Below is a comprehensive list of all the DC films slated for release this year.

Over the past ten years, DC has faced numerous challenges while witnessing Marvel’s remarkable growth through the establishment of their Marvel Cinematic Universe. DC, on the other hand, encountered significant difficulties in replicating this successful approach, and a simple comparison between Justice League and Avengers reveals why (although it’s worth noting that the released Jack Snyder cut of Justice League was quite satisfactory when it eventually came out after several years).

To be fair, DC did produce some truly exceptional movies, such as Joker and The Batman. However, their efforts fell short of creating a franchise that consistently left the audience craving for more, as Marvel brilliantly achieved.

DC has had a tumultuous journey, leaving us with numerous uncertainties about their cinematic universe. James Gunn has hinted at a complete overhaul, but that remains a far-off prospect. However, despite these uncertainties, DC still has a lineup of movies to offer us next year.

At this point, we are aware of the release of four DC movies scheduled for theatrical premiere in 2023.

DC Movies 2023: Overview And Release Dates

DC Movie
Release Date
Shazam: Fury of the Gods March 17, 2023
The Flash June 16, 2023
Blue Beetle August 18, 2023
Aquaman and the last Kingdom December 25, 2023

Shazam: Fury Of The Gods (March 17, 2023)

At the top of our list is Shazam. It was quite exciting to see Zachary Lewis back in action as the main hero, and there were also other familiar faces making a comeback. However, truth be told, the movie turned out to be rather underwhelming.

The villains, in particular, left much to be desired. Despite the numerous captivating adversaries we have had the pleasure of encountering throughout the years, DC made the unfortunate choice to present us with poorly crafted, weak, and unimpressive antagonists.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods fails to capture the interest of adult viewers, resembling a children’s movie rather than appealing to a broader audience. It’s disheartening considering there are numerous “kids movies” that manage to engage adults successfully, but unfortunately, Shazam: Fury of the Gods falls short in that regard.

The Flash (June 16, 2023)

After a nearly nine-year wait, we can now witness the long-anticipated movie featuring the swift superhero, portrayed by Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. Given the tumultuous events surrounding Ezra Miller, it’s truly remarkable that this film made it to the big screen!

The movie’s trailer highlights the central theme of time disruption, making it a clear adaptation of the Flashpoint comic storyline.

If we solely focus on the movie itself, without considering the drama surrounding it, it can be regarded as a pretty good film. It is enjoyable to witness the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman, and although the CGI is extremely poor, the storytelling is well-executed.

We won’t be revealing any spoilers, so it’s uncertain which other heroes or villains may make an appearance while the destiny of the universe is at stake.

Blue Beetle (August 18, 2023)

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the highly anticipated debut of a new hero! Xolo Mariedueña will be bringing the beloved character Jaime Reyes to life on the big screen.

Both in the movie and in our world, Blue Beetle is an exceptionally young Latino hero.

After making his debut in 2006, he quickly gained popularity as a beloved character on Young Justice. The trailer gave us a sneak peek of the impressive Blue Beetle suit, and boy, does it look absolutely fantastic!

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom (December 25, 2023)

Just in time for Christmas, DC has decided to bless us with the sequel to this heroic tale, effectively turning it into a festive film. Behold, a sneak peek into what goes on behind the scenes.

Regrettably, the release of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman was repeatedly postponed due to various controversies involving Amber Heard. However, we can now look forward to witnessing the return of Aquaman by the end of the year. It is highly anticipated that this film will serve as the culmination of the current DC movie era.

Here’s all the information we currently have. We will continue to provide updates and eagerly anticipate the upcoming movies that DC has in store for us next year.
