Valorant: How To Unlock Competitive Mode

In order to gain access to Competitive Mode in Valorant, you need to achieve a minimum Profile Level of 20. Each Profile Level is equivalent to 5000AP (Account Points), meaning you must accumulate a total of 95000AP to qualify for ranked gameplay.

To achieve this quickly, spamming Unrated & games is the most efficient method (although if you’re a beginner, we suggest starting with Unrated as it’s more suitable for learning the fundamentals). By dedicating approximately 3 hours daily to the game, you should be able to reach Profile Level 20 within a week.

In order to access Competitive Mode, players are required to complete five placement matches and obtain their initial rank. Similar to other competitive games, the rank achieved in Valorant reflects the player’s current skill level. Valorant offers a total of 22 ranks for players to progress through.

How To Rank Up in Valorant

In order to advance to a higher rank, you must accumulate 100 RR points. So, how can you obtain RR points? By achieving victory in games. Typically, winning a match in Competitive Mode will grant you approximately 10 to 50 RR points. Conversely, if the game does not favor you, you will also lose a comparable amount.

Later in this article, we will delve into the specifics of how the RR system operates in Valorant. However, as a general rule, you can conveniently track your rank progress by accessing the “Career” option in the main menu.

In summary, when the bar beneath your rank icon is completely filled, you will achieve a higher rank. Conversely, if the bar decreases, your rank will drop. Additionally, it is important to note that you will always be notified of the number of RR (Ranking Points) gained or lost immediately after each match.

It is important to note that this does not impact your matchmaking search process. It simply serves as a “rank gun buddy.” For instance, if you have reached the Immortal rank but have had a significant number of losses causing you to drop to Platinum, you will still be matched with players in the Platinum rank. By the way, if this unfortunate situation occurs, we sympathize with you, my friend.

Rank Decay

In Valorant, there is no rank decay system implemented. Nevertheless, if you abstain from playing any Competitive Mode matches for over 14 days, your rank will no longer be visible on your profile. Nevertheless, once you engage in a single match, your rank will promptly be restored.

Rank Reset

Every Valorant Episode, which occurs approximately every six months, will result in a reset of your rank. Typically, after playing your first ranked game in a new Episode, you will be placed lower by about 3-4 ranks. Riot views this as a chance for players to showcase their skills and prove themselves once again.

MMR & RR Systems in Valorant

In this discussion, we will delve into the functioning of the MMR and RR systems in Valorant, now that we have a grasp on the fundamental aspects of Competitive Mode. For those familiar with League of Legends, we can draw a parallel between this and the . However, for those new to the concept, let’s summarize how it operates.

MMR in Valorant Explained

Imagine if we informed you that your rank may not accurately reflect your true skills. Surprisingly, your skill level is primarily determined by your MMR (Matchmaking Rating), which is based on your performance throughout Competitive Mode. Interestingly, your exact MMR remains concealed, but if your rank falls below Immortal, your MMR is equivalent to other players in the same rank tier as you.

How does your MMR value impact your ranked play experience? This pertains to the RR system.

RR in Valorant Explained

As previously stated, after each game, you either gain or lose RR points, correct? Therefore, the number of RR points you receive following a match is directly linked to your MMR.

If your MMR value is higher, you will receive more RR points upon winning and experience fewer drops when losing. This is a significant factor that motivates people, including professional players, to create new accounts. A low MMR value can make the climb feel never-ending, prompting them to start anew in order to earn more RR points per game.

Difference Between MMR & RR

To simplify and summarize all of that:

  • MMR, also known as your “lifetime performance rank,” remains with you indefinitely, even though it remains invisible. It never resets, serving as a constant measure of your gaming prowess throughout your life. The sole means of boosting it is through winning games, so achieving a series of victories or creating a fresh account might be necessary if you are determined to climb the ranks.
  • In order to advance in rank, you must gather a total of 100 RR Points. The number of points awarded to you after each match is directly linked to your MMR.
  • Having a high Matchmaking Rating (MMR) results in receiving higher Ranked Rating (RR) gains following a victory, while experiencing lower RR deductions after a defeat.
  • Having a low MMR results in receiving lower RR gains following a victory, but experiencing significant RR reductions following a defeat.

Here’s a simplified explanation of the Ranking System in Valorant. We hope this clarifies everything for you. Best of luck in your journey! If you need skilled teammates to enhance your gameplay experience, feel free to join our Discord community.
