After a prolonged silence, Nintendo has finally broken their silence regarding the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom DLC.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become the talk of the gaming world in 2023, earning a special place among gamers worldwide (quite a feat in a year filled with exceptional games). Its release in May was a resounding triumph, garnering rave reviews from esteemed video game critics (we all anticipated its Game of the Year win since 2022).

With the inclusion of the Expansion Pass in Breath of the Wild, the possibility of a DLC for Tears of the Kingdom was always within reason. Numerous individuals took on the role of detectives, seeking out evidence to support the existence of a Tears of the Kingdom DLC. However, recent insights from Nintendo developers, obtained through a new interview, have shed more light on the matter.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC Rumors

Upon the release of Zelda TotK, a conspicuous clue regarding the game’s DLC was immediately apparent. While browsing the official Zelda Tears of the Kingdom website, one could encounter a straightforward disclaimer stating, “Full version of game required to use DLC. Sold separately.” This statement essentially served as Nintendo’s confirmation of an upcoming DLC release, even though no official announcement had been made.

Nintendo later removed the disclaimer, but it can still be viewed on Wayback Machine.

Regrettably, despite the optimism among people, the likelihood of us receiving a DLC remains uncertain. Our collective anticipation for additional content in TOtK was immense, given its remarkable success. However, it appears that Nintendo didn’t quite anticipate players’ desire for an extended experience in TotK.

Zelda TotK DLC Is Not Being Produced

Regrettably, Zelda enthusiasts received disappointing news from a recent interview with Zelda TotK producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, as shared by Famitsu. The interview disclosed that a Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC will not be available to us.

Since the release of TotK, fans have been clinging to rumors in hopes of a DLC, despite the lack of official confirmation from Nintendo. Although not entirely surprising, this news is disappointing, as Zelda: Breath of the Wild allowed immediate purchase of an expansion pass and subsequent DLCs upon its release.

After a span of four months since the game’s release, the first DLC called The Master Trials was made available. Subsequently, after nine months, the second DLC named The Champions’ Ballad was released. Due to the absence of any updates regarding TotK’s DLC during this considerable period, people began to question its status.

Unfortunately, as revealed in this interview, it has been confirmed that there will be no additional content for TotK. Producer Eiji Aonuma states the reason behind this decision.

[…] because I believe I have exhausted all possible efforts in developing games within that particular realm.

Continuing, he clarifies that the sole motive behind their decision to develop TotK as a follow-up to BotW was their belief in the potential of offering players a fresh gameplay experience within the realm of Hyrule.

Although a DLC for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may not be on the horizon, it has been clarified that this does not rule out the possibility of revisiting the same world in the future. If there is a compelling reason to do so, we could potentially return. Eiji Aonuma further emphasizes this point.

Regardless of whether it’s a sequel or an original piece, I believe it will offer a fresh and innovative gaming experience. I would greatly appreciate it if you could anticipate its release.

Could it be possible that they are already in the process of developing a new Zelda game? Considering Nintendo’s tendency to invest ample time in creating a new installment, much like the six-year wait we endured for TotK after BotW, it’s not far-fetched to speculate.

Fortunately, there exists an alternative method to access exclusive content for Tears of the Kingdom, and that is by utilizing Amiibos! By scanning various Amiibo figures, players can acquire a plethora of unique items within the game. Below, you will find a comprehensive compilation of the Amiibos compatible with Tears of the Kingdom, along with the corresponding rewards they unlock:

Rest assured, we will keep you posted as soon as Nintendo reveals any fresh details about their upcoming Legend of Zelda project. In the meantime, stay positive everyone!
