In this article, we gather all the rumors and information available regarding a potential PC port of The Last of Us Part 2.

Until recently, The Last of Us series had been exclusively available on PlayStation for a considerable period of time. However, things have changed since March 2023, with an increasing number of Sony first party games being released on PC. This year, The Last of Us also made its debut on computers, prompting speculation about when The Last of Us Part 2 will receive a PC Port.

There exist valid reasons to anticipate its eventual occurrence.

Starting with the unfortunate update: At this time, Sony and Naughty Dog have not made any announcements regarding the release of the second game in the series for PC. As long as they continue to stay quiet, we cannot provide a definite assurance that it will occur.

There are extremely limited, if any, confirmed rumors regarding Naughty Dog or any other party working on The Last of Us 2 for PC. The only solid indicator we have is a job listing by Naughty Dog in 2020, specifically seeking individuals with “PC programming experience” for involvement in The Last of Us Part 2.

However, Sony is gradually and consistently making a move to bring several major exclusives to the PC platform. Games such as God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Days Gone have already been available on Steam for some time now. These ports have proven to be quite successful, so we anticipate similar outcomes for the remaining games that have yet to be released on PC.

Considering the strong sales of Part 1 on PC and the increased popularity of the franchise due to the highly acclaimed TV series from HBO, it would be highly unlikely for The Last of Us Part 2 to be an exception in this regard.

The Last of Us 2 PC Port: Release Date Estimation

Given that The Last of Us Part 1 was released on PC in March 2023, it is reasonable to assume that the sequel will also take some time to be available on the platform. The PC launch of the PS5 remake perfectly coincided with the release of the final two episodes of the show, which undoubtedly garnered additional attention for the game’s port.

There could be several reasons why Sony and Naughty Dog might intentionally delay making an official announcement about the PC port of The Last of Us Part 2, if they are indeed planning to release one.

  • In order to allow Part 1 ample time to surpass the initial hype and generate substantial sales, an extended release period is granted.
  • In order to enhance the likelihood of individuals purchasing a PlayStation 5 immediately after completing The Last of Us Part 1, thereby seamlessly continuing their gaming experience with The Last of Us Part 2, and ultimately boosting sales of the PS5 console (which naturally generates more revenue than solely selling the game).
  • During the initial weeks after its release, it is hoped that Naughty Dog will take sufficient time to ensure that the sequel does not suffer from the same mistakes as its predecessor.

Based on the existing information, we anticipate The Last of Us Part 2 to be released for PC around late 2024 or early 2025.

Currently, this is merely a speculative estimation: it appears improbable for the release to occur before late 2024. However, it would be wonderful if it coincided with the launch of the highly anticipated one.
