Hogwarts Legacy is now available, and despite a few critics (such as the recent controversy), it has been overwhelmingly adored by most Harry Potter enthusiasts. It’s not hard to see why – the game encompasses cherished elements from the series, including immersive environments, magical creatures, thrilling adventures, and an abundance of captivating content. Additionally, the educational opportunities at Hogwarts are truly remarkable.

Nevertheless, it is essential to address some of your practical concerns amidst all the excitement. Here, you will discover crucial details about multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy, along with initial information about an incredibly thrilling PC mod.

Hogwarts Legacy Online Multiplayer/Co-Op Mode Availability

Hogwarts Legacy, as confirmed by the publishers Portkey Games, does not offer any multiplayer or co-op features, be it online or offline.

As stated in the game’s FAQ,

Hogwarts Legacy is designed as a solo player adventure and does not offer any online or cooperative gameplay features.

Apologies, esteemed reader. We are fully aware of the immense potential for co-op gameplay in Hogwarts Legacy, given the existing elements within the game. Regrettably, this prospect does not seem likely. However, a glimmer of hope emerges with the introduction of a new mod.

You Can Play Hogwarts Legacy With Your Friends With An Upcoming Mod

Our tears quickly dried, when we found out that we might be able to play Hogwarts Legacy in multiplayer after all. A group of modders called Together Team, who are responsible for the famous Skyrim Together Reborn mod, have come together again to make a multiplayer mode for Hogwarts Legacy. The so-called “HogWarp” mod is currently being developed, as developer Yamashi explained in a recent interview with PC Gamer:

Our focus lies on developing a stable framework that allows people to enjoy the original game without providing any specific content for multiplayer. Moreover, we aim to enable users to potentially enhance and expand the game according to their preferences in the future.

Currently, HogWarp Patreon subscribers ($10 a month) can access an initial version. Furthermore, by enrolling, players will be granted entry into the modders’ Discord channel.

There are plans to release a free and open-source version of HogWarp, but it depends on whether the rights holders take legal action against it. The reaction of the rights holders of Hogwarts Legacy to the mod is uncertain, and Avalanche Software, the game’s developer, might take on the task of developing the missing multiplayer feature.

Will You Need To Have An Internet Connection To Play Hogwarts Legacy?

Although there is no co-op or online gameplay, players purchasing a physical copy of the game will still require an internet connection to download a day-one patch before they can start playing. On the other hand, those opting for the digital version will have the patch pre-installed, assuming they have an internet connection as it is necessary for purchasing the game digitally.

The information has been confirmed by the developers in the FAQ mentioned earlier.

Customers who buy a physical copy of Hogwarts Legacy must connect to the internet in order to install a Day 1 patch. On the other hand, those who purchase the game digitally will receive the patch along with the initial download.

If your internet connection is not great, there’s no need to worry too much as the day-one patch is not anticipated to be significantly large.

Multiplayer Content Possibilities

Dueling and Quidditch are two areas in the game that we believe have the potential to receive multiplayer content in the future.

Dueling

Dueling, a prevalent activity in the wizarding realm, was vividly portrayed in “The Chamber of Secrets.” Harry and Malfoy engaged in a duel by exchanging offensive spells on a lengthy platform. A reminiscent demonstration of this dueling scenario can also be observed in the Hogwarts Legacy gameplay trailer.

In Hogwarts Legacy, there is another instance of dueling showcased in the Deluxe Edition’s bonus content. The package includes an intriguing feature known as the Dark Arts Battle Arena. While the specifics remain undisclosed, it is highly probable that this addition will allow players to engage in dueling practice within the Room of Requirements.

However, it should be noted that while dueling holds significant importance in Hogwarts Legacy, there is no certainty that an online multiplayer edition of dueling will be developed. Nonetheless, we believe that there is a high likelihood of such a feature being introduced.

Quidditch

The possibility of future multiplayer content in Hogwarts Legacy becomes even more apparent when considering the presence of broom traversal and the confirmation of the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch within the game. Although the developers have stated that Quidditch will not be playable upon launch, it is likely that they may release a separate expansion specifically dedicated to Hogwarts Legacy Quidditch.

Although it may not reach the same level as the original Quidditch World Cup game, one can speculate that Warner Bros is eager for developer Avalanche Software to create a similar gaming experience. It is widely believed that such a game would generate immense sales.

While the presence of Quidditch in the world of Hogwarts Legacy raises the possibility, it is important to note that its existence does not guarantee the development of an online version for players to compete against each other. We are simply speculating on the likelihood of such a release.

Although it may be disheartening, if you are still interested in purchasing Hogwarts Legacy, we recommend reading our article that compares the game and our guide to determine if it is worth your investment.
