All Marvel Movies Out in 2022: Release Dates & Details

2022 brings another exciting year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, continuing its legacy of delivering exceptional movies and shows. Wondering what the MCU has in store for you? Check out the list of Marvel Movies premiering this year…

Since the introduction of Iron Man in 2008, Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe commenced, and we have since been inundated with a constant flow of Marvel movies, some of which have been successful, while others not so much. From the lows of The Incredible Hulk and the initial two Thor films, to the highs of Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, the onslaught of superhero content in the form of films and TV shows appears to be ceaseless.

Currently, it appears that MCU movies and TV shows are shifting from Netflix to another platform. This development is certainly thrilling as it consolidates all our Marvel content in one location. However, it’s important to note that not everything is perfect in this scenario. Having an excessive amount of a good thing can be overwhelming, and this sentiment is reinforced when you examine the extensive list of all Marvel films and TV shows scheduled for release in 2022.

To be honest, many of these projects seem entirely unnecessary. Is there really a demand for another Antman movie? Do we truly require an excessive number of Marvel shows? Shouldn’t the folks at Disney strive for more originality instead of endlessly recycling Marvel content as if it’s a addictive substance for their fans? But let’s not point fingers, because let’s face it, you’re definitely going to watch the new Thor, right?

Marvel Movies 2022: Release Dates, Plot & More

In 2022, there are a total of four confirmed Marvel Movies, with two already released in cinemas. Having a Marvel movie every three months may not seem like much at first, but it actually amounts to a significant amount of content. Undoubtedly, these movies are expected to perform exceptionally well. Here is a list of the four Marvel movies scheduled for release this year:

Marvel Movie Release Date
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness May 6, 2022
Thor: Love and Thunder July 8, 2022
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever November 11, 2022
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special December 2022

What do we have here? We have a direct continuation of last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, known as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The movie has received mixed reviews, with only a handful of individuals praising it and very few expressing constant complaints about it.

Thor: Love and Thunder serves as a sequel to Taika Waititi’s highly successful 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok. However, it unfortunately fails to meet the high expectations set by its predecessor. On the other hand, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is highly anticipated as it will be the first Black Panther film since the passing of Chadwick Boseman. It will be interesting to see how they pay tribute to Boseman while also charting a new path for the Black Panther franchise. Lastly, the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie leaves us with little to say, as it is difficult to predict what new adventures and surprises await us in this installment.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6, 2022)

Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been a commercial success, grossing nearly a billion dollars since its release in early May. However, it has received mixed reviews, with a Metacritic score of 6/10 and a user score of 6.1/10. Despite this, it is not a terrible film. Benedict Cumberbatch once again showcases his American accent, taking it to new levels. The movie explores the multiverse theme, as is common in many recent films, and presents a threat that is supposedly unprecedented, although not entirely convincing.

Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8, 2022)

Oh, look! Another Thor movie is here! How thrilling! Well, I must apologize, but it seems that Jane Foster is back, and Taika Waititi is returning as director. Although the previous movie managed to make me care about a love story that wasn’t particularly relevant, not even in the first Thor film, it ultimately fell short for me. Thor: Ragnarok brought a breath of fresh air, but now Love and Thunder feels like it’s losing that spark. Christian Bale’s performance was impressive, as always, but many of the jokes fall flat, and the plot feels lackluster. It’s disappointing to see the quality of Marvel films appear to be on a downward trend.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11, 2022)

The second installment of Black Panther is intriguing due to the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who portrayed the titular character, in 2020. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever faced the challenging task of honoring Boseman’s legacy while charting a new path for the Black Panther franchise and delivering a compelling film. Fortunately, the movie successfully accomplishes this difficult mission. It effectively acknowledges the void left by T’Challa and Boseman, evoking strong emotions from the audience. Additionally, it skillfully introduces Shuri as a worthy successor to the Black Panther mantle. However, one aspect that didn’t quite resonate with me was the portrayal of the enemy civilization. While initially menacing, their level of technological advancement didn’t feel convincing enough to rival Wakanda, making them less threatening as the story unfolds. Moreover, the inclusion of numerous unnecessary side characters seemed excessive and detracted from the movie’s focus. Nevertheless, overall, the film was excellent, with Namor serving as a commendable villain, making it a solid addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It certainly surpasses Thor: Love and Thunder in quality.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (Late / Holiday, 2022)

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is something that all of us want, even though none of us actually need it. Set to be released in December 2022, this feature-length TV special will fulfill our desires for a Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas experience. Although it may not be a movie per se, we’re fortunate to have this cheeky addition to our holiday entertainment.

So, there you have it: the complete lineup of Marvel Movies arriving in 2022. Are you starting to feel fatigued by the constant onslaught of Marvel films? Perhaps you’re yearning for something fresh, something that piques your interest. Well, fear not, because this year’s selection offers quite a diverse range. While Doctor Strange may appear a tad lackluster, serving as more of the same, we do have a couple of surprises in store with the new Black Panther and a Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special. And let’s not forget about Thor: Love and Thunder. However, if you’re in the mood for something truly distinctive…
