There is a strong possibility that a PC version of God of War Ragnarök will be released, giving players the opportunity to play Kratos’ latest adventure on Steam. There have been indications suggesting that a PC port for GoW Ragnarök is in the works, and a comment from PlayStation Studios provides some insight into a potential release date.God of War, the highly anticipated sequel, made its debut on November 9, 2022, specifically for PS4 and PS5. As a devoted fan, I must admit that experiencing the ongoing journey of Kratos and his son Atreus has been truly captivating, especially following the remarkable reboot in 2018. Although the original game is primarily exclusive to PlayStation, playing it on PC, particularly through Steam, has become the favored option due to its well-executed port. This enhanced version has undeniably elevated an already exceptional game to new heights. Is GoW Ragnarök coming to PC? There are indications of a potential PC version, including statements from series creator Cory Barlog and a hint from a developer. Let’s discuss the current status of a God of War: Ragnarök PC port and a potential release timeframe.

God of War Ragnarök: PC Port Likely To Be Developed

To begin with the most significant note: It is highly probable that God of War Ragnarök will be released on PC, similar to its previous installment. However, it is important to clarify that there is no assurance as an official announcement regarding the port has not been made yet.

In just a moment, we will delve into why a possible GoW Ragnarök PC port is probable. However, it’s crucial to examine the publicly available information first. Cory Barlog, co-creator of the series and director of the 2018 reboot, was questioned about the potential PC version of Ragnarök during an interview with Game Informer, shortly after the initial game became available on Steam. Barlog exhibited a cautious and evasive attitude towards the matter.

I’m unsure. Currently, we’re approaching things by focusing on each game individually, assessing whether it’s the best course of action. We evaluate how it performs, if people find it enjoyable, and if we executed it correctly. We also consider any mistakes made and how we can improve in the future, should we decide to pursue this again. However, Sony has the final say in the matter.

Despite the lack of encouragement, we remain confident that God of War Ragnarök will eventually be released on PC. Our belief stems from the fact that Sony has been gradually bringing several of their significant titles to the PC, albeit at a slower pace. We have already seen the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone, with more titles anticipated in the future.

Naturally, the initial God of War game made its way to PC and achieved remarkable success. It is only logical to anticipate that Sony will follow suit with the sequel. There seems to be no reason for them not to do so.

Furthermore, we have received additional evidence pointing towards the possibility of a PC version. Jetpack Interactive, the primary development studio for the PC adaptation of God of War (2018), has provided a more concrete clue. On their LinkedIn page, they not only acknowledge the commercial success of the first GoW port, but also mention their ongoing collaboration with Sony Santa Monica on the God of War franchise. Notably, even nearly a year after Ragnarök’s launch on PlayStation, this statement remains unchanged. This strongly implies that Jetpack is likely working on a PC version for Ragnarök as well.

After the confirmation of a PC port for GoW Ragnarök, the subsequent crucial inquiry would naturally revolve around its release date. In 2018, God of War made its debut on PS4, and it took nearly four years for Kratos to eventually grace Steam. However, a statement from Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, provides a glimmer of hope that the process may be expedited significantly for GoW: Ragnarök.

Herman, in a YouTube video released shortly after the game’s launch, mentioned that there would likely be a minimum one-year gap between PlayStation and PC releases, except for live service games. Based on this information, it is highly unlikely that Ragnarök will be available on PC before 2024. If the port was intended for a 2023 release, an official announcement would have been made by now. Considering the timeline of previous PlayStation exclusives being released on PC by Sony, we can anticipate a release date around mid to late 2024.

Until we receive the official confirmation of a PC port, it is clear that we are merely making an educated guess. However, it is important to note that obtaining this confirmation may require a significant amount of time. As evidenced by the instances of God of War (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man taking four years to be released on PC, and Horizon taking three years, among others, it is evident that these processes can be lengthy. Although The Last of Us Part 1 arrived relatively sooner, it is advisable to still prepare for a potential wait.
