Akiva Goldsman, co-creator of Star Trek: Picard, revealed in 2020 that the show was initially planned to run for three seasons, with the third season serving as the finale. However, the possibility of a fourth season was not ruled out entirely, as it would depend on the interest and approval of CBS, Patrick Stewart, and the global audience.

However, Jeri Ryan, who portrayed Seven of Nine, confirmed in March 2022 that the series would be concluding with season 3.

Showrunner Terry Matalas believes that there is still a vast potential for the story to continue unfolding, indicating that there is room for more beyond the current run. However, Stewart has expressed his hesitance in portraying Picard as a reunion of Star Trek: The Next Generation that spans three seasons.

However, it appears that a few members of the cast are willing to consider a future project centered around Star Trek, whether it be a film or another series. Stewart himself even hinted at the idea of a movie after the show has finished airing.

In the event of another season being commissioned, it is highly improbable for it to return to our screens before Summer 2024, at the very earliest.

Meanwhile, fans can find solace in the fact that the third season of the series delivers a gratifying finale, while beloved characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager may still cross paths with a fresh generation in a show called “Star Trek: Legacy.”

There is a possibility of a spin-off series being created, which would pick up from where Star Trek: Picard season 3 concluded. Caution: minor spoilers ahead! In the final episode of “The Next Generation,” there is a post-credits scene featuring Jack in his room aboard the Enterprise-G. Unexpectedly, Q appears and cryptically informs Jack, “Young mortal, you have a great deal ahead of you.” This scene strongly suggests that the writers intended to keep the story open for potential future developments.
